Free SaaS tools that are actually worth using
Not every free plan is a bait-and-switch. These 52 tools have free tiers you can genuinely build on — not just trial windows disguised as free plans.
What makes a free plan genuinely useful?
A good free plan lets you do real work, not just explore the interface. It should cover your core use case without artificially crippling the experience. The best free plans are designed to get you hooked on the product — which is fine, because it means the product has to be good enough to sell itself.
Red flags for bad free plans: severe data limits (100 contacts, 50 tasks), missing essential features (no export, no API, no integrations), or aggressive upgrade prompts that block your workflow. We have excluded those from this list.
How we selected these tools
Every tool on this list meets three criteria: the free plan is usable for ongoing real work (not a 14-day trial), it has a G2 score of 4.0 or above, and the upgrade path is transparent — you know exactly what you are paying for if you outgrow the free tier.

When to upgrade from free
Free plans are designed with limits. You should upgrade when those limits actively slow your team down — not when you first encounter them. If you hit the contact cap on a CRM, can you clean your list first? If you hit the project limit, can you archive old ones? Squeeze value from the free tier before paying. That said, if you find yourself spending 30 minutes a week working around free-plan limitations, the paid plan is cheaper than your time.
Check our pricing models guide to understand what you will pay when you do upgrade.
